Optimising

Optimising means selecting the best from a set of possible options. Strictly speaking, the concepts of optimising and optimal choice are only defined when the set of possible options and the criterion for selecting among them (ie, the objective function) are formally defined. However, both terms are often used in common language to refer to seemingly good choices.
