Indirect Assessment

Indirect assessment is the conditional assessment of an uncertain variable represented by a frontier node in a relevance diagram. An indirect assessment can be either deterministic—the frontier node is assessed through a deterministic function of its direct predecessors—or stochastic—the node is assigned a probability distribution conditioned on the outcomes of its direct predecessors. Indirect assessments create new relevance diagram structure (nodes and/or arrows).
