Howard Canonical Form

Howard Canonical Form

Redirected from "HCF"

A relevance diagram is said to be in Howard canonical form (HCF) when it has no directed paths from a decision node to a stochastic node. Directed paths from decision nodes to deterministic nodes are allowed. Relevance diagrams in Howard canonical form have the property that a value of perfect information can be computed for any stochastic node with respect to any decision node.

Howard canonical form is named after Professor Ron Howard of Stanford University, the inventor of the term decision analysis.
