I am an amateur student of design. Over the years I have learned a few of the principles of what makes for good and bad design, in graphics, typography, software and elsewhere. And I have tried in designing my models and this website to produce more of the good stuff. Others might be interested in my experience.

I have just come across a great presentation given by Seth Godin at Gel 2006, entitled “This is broken”. It’s an amusing take on the bad design that populates the world all around us. It has got me thinking about the broken designs I work with, and what I might be able to do about it.

I thought about paying someone to put this site together, but in the end I chose not to. It has therefore taken a lot longer to see the light and, if I put anything like a sensible price on my time, cost a lot more. But I think it is worth it. I did, though, get a lot of valuable help.
